Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • peeled roasted peanuts (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well mixed.
  3. Create a well in the center and add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. While cooling, prepare the frosting by beating together cream cheese, peanut butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until fluffy.
  7. Once cooled, frost one layer generously with frosting before adding the second layer on top. Frost the sides and top of the cake and garnish with peanuts.
