  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 cup pasta sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 sub sandwich rolls, cut in half
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, Italian seasoning, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper by hand until well combined.
  3. Form mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes until cooked through.
  4. Spread half the pasta sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Layer half of the sub rolls over the sauce.
  5. Place baked meatballs on top of the rolls and pour remaining sauce over them. Top generously with mozzarella cheese.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil during the last 10 minutes to brown the cheese.
  7. Let cool slightly before garnishing with basil and serving hot.
